Dr. Patrick Elvander Memorial Scholarship
California Native Plant Society, Santa Cruz Chapter
The Santa Cruz Chapter of the California Native Plant Society (CNPS) is offering up to two $500 scholarships for students at UC Santa Cruz and Cabrillo College in memory of Dr. Patrick Elvander, former instructor of Plant Systematics at UCSC. The purpose of the fund is to promote research or an independent project that furthers conservation, education and/or understanding of native flora in the Monterey Bay Area. It is hoped that by undertaking such a project, students will be encouraged to pursue a career in plant organismal biology (or some aspect of plant systematics, ecology, conservation, or a related field).
Scholarship Requirements
Applicants should be enrolled at UCSC or Cabrillo College and undertaking
a research, educational or other project related to conservation of our local
native flora. Applicants will be evaluated based on motivation, focus, clarity
of stated goals and project outline, relevance of project to local flora issues,
and project feasibility.
The following two requirements must be met upon completion of the project:
1. Recipient agrees to make either a short (15 minutes) oral presentation of project results at a CNPS Santa Cruz general meeting, or create and present a professional poster of project results at a CNPS Santa Cruz general meeting;
